There have been so many great book reviews of late on the book blogs I follow that I feel like I am drowning in book recommendations! I will link to them over the next few days.
In the meantime, a few nights ago the girls let me pick out the bedtime books. I picked out two of my favorites and we had a great read. Here are the two books – oldies but goodies:
The Stray Dog by Marc Simont. This very sweet book is about a family who encounters a stray dog at a park, goes home without him, but then returns to the park a week later and decides to take him home. The drawings are simple but very sweet (my favorite one – the little boy takes his belt off to give it to the dog as a collar, and on the next page he is shown trying to hold his loose shorts up). This is a shortie but a goodie.
The Boy Who Wouldn't Go To Sleep, by Helen Cooper. A little boy tells his mother that he doesn't want to go to bed. Instead, he drives off in his little car and encounters a tiger, a bunch of soldiers, a train carrying toys, and a traveling band, all of whom tell him that they are too tired to play with him. Eventually, he returns to his room and finally falls asleep, surrounded by toy-size versions of the very creatures and items he encountered on his pre-sleep adventure. The pictures are very clever and my daughters have fun finding all the things in his bedroom that he encountered along his trip.
Back to grown-up books next time!
About Me
I have been blogging about books here at Everyday I Write the Book since 2006. I love to read, and I love to talk about books and what other people are reading.
