I haven't been able to post the last few days because I am out at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, one of my five favorite cities in the US. (I was going to write "two", then "three", and then I realized that there are five: DC, San Francisco, Seattle, NYC, and Vegas). This place is infinitely interesting to me, and I love being here to soak it up.
I just started a new book that has totally sucked me in already: Red Hook Road, by Ayelet Waldman. I am also listening to another good one on audio: The Abstinence Teacher, by Tom Perotta. Reviews to come!
In the meantime, I have gotten book suggestions from two EDIWTB readers which I thought I'd share here.
The first comes from Susan P., who says the following: "I just finished a book and wanted to tell you about it. It's called A Happy Marriage by Rafael Yglesias and it moved me like no other book I've read. It's very sad (the wife is dying after thirty years of marriage), but it is profoundly moving and beautifully-written." I've wanted to read that for a while – thanks, Susan!
And from Amy G.: "I just finished a book that I loved, literally stayed up until 3 am to finish it. The Wives of Henry Oades, by Johanna Moran. It's supposedly based on a true story, and an amazing one at that, although there's talk of it being something of a hoax. Anyway, thought I'd suggest it to you, we generally like the same books, and I almost passed on this one because the cover looks too much like a romance novel."
Amy and Susan – thanks for the suggestions!!
About Me
I have been blogging about books here at Everyday I Write the Book since 2006. I love to read, and I love to talk about books and what other people are reading.
