Miscellany

First, an annoying thing to report: I was on a business trip this week and had to switch hotels after one night. Somehow, my current book, Free Food for Millionaires, didn’t make it to the new hotel. I called the first hotel, reported it missing, even went by the next morning, but it never turned up. I am particularly bummed, for a few reasons: 1) I was really looking forward to reading it before bed; 2) it was a review copy; and, worst of all, 3) it was signed to me by the author. I hope that someone out there is enjoying it – at least I’m getting the word out, no? I replaced it today, paid full price, and then read 30 pages at lunch. It’s very frustrating to be looking forward to reading and then not be able to do so… it’s like having a friend cancel on you for dinner.

Second, thanks to Reading is My Superpower, I found this article in The New Yorker about set designers and how they find the books they need to fill the bookshelves on movie and TV sets. Haven’t you wondered before where those impressive leather-bound book collections come from?

Finally, I want to hear from you, EDIWTB readers. What are you reading these days? Drop me a comment and let me know what’s on your bedside table.
